Belgaum: The inter state swimming championship brought aquatic talent to the fore.

The young swimmers of Swimmers' Club, Belgaum lifted the “general championship” at the 12th Prasanna Inter-state Invitational Age Group Swimming Championship held at the Rotary Club Swimming Pool in Belgaum city for two days recently.

From other districts

Swimmers from the home state Karnataka, besides Maharashtra and Goa, participated in the competition, organised by Swimmers' Club and Aquarius Swim Club, Belgaum, and supported by Rotary Club of Belgaum, Lokmanya Multipurpose Co-op. Society Ltd., Chonnad Steels, Sai Steels, Dr.M.G. Umrani, Hidaddugi & Company and The Saraswat Co-op. Bank, Belgaum. Around 500 children between the age of four years to 17 and those above the age of 40 from various cities like Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune, Goa, Hubli, Kolhapur, Sangli, Miraj, Aurangabad, Thane and Belgaum converged here to compete for the coveted title.


The members of Swimmers' Club finally excelled by securing a total of 769 points, leaving its challengers far behind; ABBA Club Belgaum – 343, Kolhapur Aquatic Team – 258, Goa Team -127. But, it was Somesh Joshi of ABBA Club and Ranjana H. of Bangalore, emerged fastest swimmers in the male and female categories, respectively.

Apart from the general championship trophy, medals and cash prizes were also given to top three winners in each event.

An inter-school solo dance competition and inter collegiate Group dance competition that added colour to the eventalso took place.
