Stop pollution

September 06, 2010 05:23 pm | Updated 05:23 pm IST

There were trees and green grounds around. We could see grass-hoppers and birds that had built their nests on the trees. There was also a pisciculture ground nearby.

But three years ago we shifted from my maternal grandmother's place to a house near the highway. This place is entirely different. Always, there are heaps of garbage and it is burnt nearby. The smoke chokes s and all we can do is to run helplessly from room to room. I am fed up of this routine.

My friend told me that the garbage from all around the city is brought there and burnt, causing pollution. This is in summer. During the rainy season, it starts stinking and house flies and mosquitoes start breeding in large numbers. We can't even open our doors. But what can we do? This is not a problem faced by my family alone. We should act now and take necessary steps to stop pollution. The three Rs – reduce, reuse and recycle - could be the first step that we can take towards this.
