This was followed by a cultural extravaganza and sports meet. A key attraction was the colourful march past, accompanied by the school band.
The guest of honour Prajusha M.A. — long jump silver medallist at the Commonwealth Games — declared open the sports meet. She stressed on persistence and perseverance in the face of adversity and failures, to achieve success in life.
Students took the oath and the torch was lit, upholding the spirit of Olympics. The chief guest was C.K. Menon, entrepreneur and philanthropist. He stressed the importance of being a good human being and reminded students to dream big and to have a goal in life. He also emphasised the role played by teachers in moulding future generations who would be an asset to humanity. “Above all, one needs to have God's grace to lead a meaningful life,” he said.
Apart from the students, the sports meet saw teachers and parents too participate in various events. The closing ceremony was a unique blend of traditional art and dance forms like shingari melam, vanchipattu and thiruvathira. Dance items from Rajasthan and Manipur too were staged. The events culminated with the popular Waka waka dance number.
The school anthem was choreographed in tune with the Kathak dance form, said Principal Joseph Chirayath. A slow march saw the school flag being brought down and handed over to the next school leader.
