The summer vacation for the students of Karnataka Law Society's Pre-Primary and Primary School turned out meaningful with the school arranging a special workshop on theatre activities for 15 days during the second half of May.
Learning the art
The workshop was conducted by artists of Ninasam, a reputed cultural organisation in Karnataka (based in Heggodu in Shimoga district).
During the workshop, children were exposed to various facets and activities of drama, such as script writing, dialogue, acting, dance, direction, stage setting, production, singing, music, dance, costume designing and lighting. The session on ‘puppetry' was an additional feature, most enjoyed by them.
Raghu Shimoga, Danappa Mudalgi, Appu Ramdurg, Gururaj L. of Ninasam conducted the workshop. The event culminated with thestaging of B.V. Karant's “Heddayana”, which was enacted by about 30 children, including Akshay Hegde, Maithili, Sama, Srisiddha, Sushrut, Sudeep, Chinmay, Ganesh, Harish, Neha, Varchas, Manas, Swanand, Manasi and Prajakta. According to the Principal, Swati Achar, the school always looked forward to facilitating a forum where children start exploring their latent talents. Also, the events like the workshop of theatre activities provided an opportunity for the children to know about drama, which has been an important part of Indian culture.
The children need to be taught cultural and moral values when they are young so that they grow into good and productive citizens in future. The Management of the KLS has always been supportive in organising such programmes for the benefit of the school children, she added.
