The students of Excel Public School, Kunnamkulam, recently made an audio-visual presentation on the history and culture of Kerala and India, by interweaving legends and historical events. The 90-minute-long variety entertainment was organised on the sidelines of a principals' meeting organised by the Confederation of Sahodaya Complexes in Kerala, at Kochi.
Colurful tales
The tales of how foreign invaders exploited India because of disunity and one-upmanship among people and regional rulers; the arrival of Vasco da Gama; the independence struggle and more were showcased professionally.
The audience comprised among others the chairman of CBSE, Vineet Joshi. The students chose the theme ‘Padavukal', meaning steps. The events also threw light on contemporary issues like the unprecedented exploitation of our natural resources and the destruction of nature by modern man to meet his greed. One hundred and ten students from Stds IV to X enacted 350 characters, including patriots, social reformers and popular writers.
The events included songs, recitation, music, dramas, tableaux, folk arts like pulikkali , and different dance forms, including tribal dance. Impressed by the performance, Mr. Joshi exhorted the principals to give the students a standing ovation. The programmes were not only a feast for their eyes and ears, but it refreshed the minds and touched the finer sentiments of the audience. The show was choreographed, students trained and sound/stage settings were executed by teachers and staff of the school.
