It has been observed that when exams are “knocking” at the door, food usually takes a back seat. It is important to remember that a proper diet is a tonic for the brain.
Glugging down coffee and bingeing on pizza is the most common indulgence that most students get into. But, good nutrition and a proper diet chart are vital to ace through the exams.
Fresh fruits
Fruits are a must and so are vegetables, proteins, vitamin rich foods and fresh fruit juices.
Here are a few tips from them as to what one should eat and what one should avoid when the panic button strikes…
Pizzas, pastas, burgers, are definitely quick bites but they are harmful for the brain giving zero nutrition and high calories. Three meals a day is a must and breakfast especially should be given utmost importance.
The meals should be rich in vegetables as veggies help detoxify the system and beat the stress. Breakfast should be milk based - porridge, oats or cornflakes are best.
Lunch should have a balance of pulses, rice, curd, vegetables. Non vegetarian preparations should not be rich and heavy. Dinner should be light and rice should be avoided during dinner. Chapatti is advised.
Apart from this there should be two snack times in between. One around 11-11.30 am and the other between 4pm-6pm.
Snacks could be dry fruits, fresh fruits, salads, butter milk or coconut water. Apart from this students are advised to soak almonds (2-3) every night and have it in the morning. This is believed to help in increasing the memory power.
Proper sleep and rest is equally important,” opines Dr Nisha Malhotra, dietician, Ozone Fitness Center.
