Be aware of the environment

More than 200 students participated in competitions related to environment conservation.

A series of competitions were held for students to create awareness on environment conservation. The Melur Educational district environment awareness competitions held at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Melur, saw 220 students participate in a range of competitions.

Models on display

The competitions included Enviro Expo, where students exhibited models depicting the need to safeguard national treasures, a quiz competition on environment, painting, elocution and drawing competitions based on themes related to the environment like “Our Earth” and “Our Future” were held.

Ms. Alphonsal, District Education Officer, Melur, conducted the competitions and selected the prize winners. Prizes were distributed by Rajni Rathinamala, Chief Education Officer, Madurai. The contests were organised by National Green Corps, Melur Education District.

The Government Higher Secondary School, Sekkipatti, won the first prize in the Enviro Expo event and Mahatma Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Baba Building, Madurai, and Government High School, Pothumbu, got the second and third prizes. The Government Girls Higher Secondary School emerged winners in the quiz competition followed by SSV Sala Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Melur, and Mahatma Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Baba Building, Madurai.

A. Nishanth, Mahatma Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Baba Building, Madurai, won the first prize in the painting competition. Jeevanandam, BPM Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Anna Nagar, Madurai, came second and M. Raja Nandhini, Bharath Vidya Mandir, Matriculation School, Iyer Bungalow, Madurai, came third.

A. Abinaya, of Mahatma Matric H.S. School, Madurai, came first in the drawing competition followed by K. Sethupathi, Government High School, Therkutheru, and L. Perumal Al Ameen Higher Secondary School, K. Pudur, Madurai, came second and third.
