Chennai nights continue to be cold, and as biting winds rasp your face, you know there’s only one place to keep you warm — your home, of course. Winter, even if it’s the fag end, is an opportune time to focus on your home and make it more fashionable. A hot trend, this season, is the use of graphic patterns. Like bold colours, they have a way of instantly perking up a room and refreshing a space without making you break the bank. Most designers are partial to bold stripes, art deco and geometric patterns for winter, but you should feel free to choose whatever catches your eye and goes well with your current décor. The easiest way to add graphic patterns to your home is by using accessories like pillows, cushions, vases, lamps and shades, trays and rugs. There are many types of decorative cushions you can add to your living room, family room, and bed. Another interesting way of adding style is by using bed tray tables and tea sets, so you can enjoy your coffee in bed on a cold, winter morning.

The use of metallic shades during this season is also a growing trend, but brass in particular, seems to have caught people’s fascination. Its timeless sheen mixes well with other metals and it never really goes out of style. Try adding a bunch of brass candlesticks to your mantel or incorporate a lamp into your office/living room décor to add sheen. Adding ornate brass handles to drawers, cupboards or closets gives your décor that metallic touch too.

Another way of styling your home this season is by using chandeliers and ceramic kitchen accessories like tea sets and dinner sets in floral prints. Select soft furnishings with the right throw pillows and a rug to create an archaic look that sets the right tone for the rest of the house.
