Namit Das is literally on song! The actor, who has worked in films such as The President Is Coming , Lafangey Parindey , Wake Up Sid and Ghanchakkar , is now touring south India with his play Stories In A Song which has already completed 65 shows. Having performed in Bangalore over the last three days, Namit is performing today in Chennai. The structure of the show is episodic and Namit is a part of all these episodes with each differing in its style as the story is connected to a different time period and history.
“One of the joys of Stories In A Song is the sheer happiness of singing songs; the idea of just standing on stage and belting out a number. Shubha Mudgal and Aneesh Pradhan’s musical guidance helped us sharpen our skills. But the biggest pleasure is to see people in the audience who are happy to be there. You know that Stories In A Song has touched them and they will keep coming again and again to witness the pure magic of music,” says Namit.
About working in theatre and films, the actor says, “I was into drama and acting from childhood. I have been fortunate to work with some really big names from the industry and in theatre. For me blending theatre and films is very important as theatre is where it all began and I love it. Films are a completely different ball game and I enjoy both processes equally.”
On the film front, Namit will be seen next in Rajat Kapoor’s Aakhon Dekhi and Ravi Rai’s Maya, Vanilla And Strawberries . “Both are great stories and have some lovely sequences. I am always open to theatre as its therapeutic for me. There are a few commercials in my kitty too,” he adds.
Stories In A Song will be staged today at Music Academy.
