‘Shakthi,’ the stage adaptation of the unforgettable Audrey Hepburn starrer, ‘Wait until Dark,’ marks the directorial debut of Madhuvanthi Arun, in the 60 year of UAA. It is about a visually challenged woman who transcends her limitations, and is being performed by the third generation of actors of UAA. “The aim is to draw audiences back to Tamil theatre,” says Madhuvanthi.
It will also have Y. Gee Mahendra in a guest role.
The USP of ‘Shakthi’ is that it will be enacted on a revolving stage – a technique that is sure to go down well with the younger generation, and provide a new experience for avid Tamil theatre goers. Renowned art director Thotta Tharrani has created the set. The concept was tried out with much success about 20 years ago, when the play was first staged and directed by Mahendra. This time Anirudh Ravichander, who scaled dizzying heights with the solo, ‘Kolaveri Di,’ is composing the background score.
‘Shakthi’ will be performed on October 4, 5, 6, 7, at Ramarao Kala Mandapam, Habibullah Road, T. Nagar, at7pm, on all days, with a special show at 11 am on Sunday, October 7 . Tickets will be available at the venue from October 3.
