The renovation work at the centuries-old Sri Adhi Kesava Perumal Temple at Mambakkam village near Thirukazhukundram is under way. It is a very small and pretty temple along the Thirukazhukundram-Madurantagam Road. According to residents the temple was built some 300 years ago.
Apart from the moolavar and utsavar idols of Adhi Kesava Perumal, Sridevi and Bhoodevi, utsavar idols of Ethirajavalli Thayar, Andal, Kannan, Sudarsana Azhwar, Nammazhwar and Manavala Mamunigal have been consecrated in this temple. There are separate niches for deities, Garudan and Hanuman.
As per Vedic and agama tradition the samprokshanam has to be performed once in 12 years and accordingly the last one was performed in 1998. A group of like-minded people have decided to perform the consecration in August after completing the renovation of the entire vimanam, repairs for sanctum sanctorum and the entire temple premises.
The temple renovation committee seek financial support from devotees. Cheques/DDs, drawn in favour of Sri Adhi Kesava Perumal Devasthanam, may be sent to K. Sriraman, Plot 18-B, Patel Cross Street, Nehru Nagar, Chromepet, Chennai 600 044. For details call 2223 2543/4357 5997/98840 96463.
