The Cauvery delta has been noted not just for its soil fertility but also the fertility of human mind to breed religious thoughts and piety. No wonder it has been home to so many temples – huge and magnificent. There are also smaller temples in villages which are in need of attention for regular worship to commence. One of them is the temple of Sri Chidambareswaraswami at Vadapakka Agraharam village in Thanjavur district, close to Valangaiman town. This temple is surrounded by Karuvalarsery Agastheeswarar, Tippirajapuram village and Nachiyarkoil. The Marudanallur Sadguruswamigal Mutt is about two kilo metres from here.
This ancient Siva temple, believed to be 900 years old and built during the Chola king Kulothunga's reign, needs to be renovated. But for the moolasthana lingam, which still remains in its original place, all the other deities are finding their way out of the village.
The current endeavour is to renovate the temple as per agama tradition mainly installing the main lingam, Ambal, a small size Vinayakar and Murugan in addition to Sri Nandiswarar. And all efforts are being made to continue the nithya puja at the temple after kumbabishekam.
The main structure is coming up along with a gopuram. The estimated cost will be around Rs 3.5 lakhs. The consecration is expected to take place later this year.
It is also planned to undertake plantation of trees which have significant ecological and religious value. These plantations will foster bio-diversity in the village and also help control the micro-climate in the village in the light of global warming. Devotees can also sponsor saplings of their wish.
