Bharatnatyam recital of US-based Praveena Vajja and Sindhumadhuri was an elegant blend of grace and precise movements. Disciples of Guru Avasrala Rukmajirao, the duo’s talent came to fore at Kalabharati Visakhapatnam. The recital was composed of the pieces that showcased their artistic flair. Clarity of expression, elegance in postures in sync with vivacious movements left a lasting impression on viewers. Both individually and together the artistes gave remarkable performance.

The mainstay of the evening was Padavarnam Chalamela chesevayya maa Rangayya of Mullai Veedu Ranga Swamy Nattuvanar in raga Natakuranji. The thrust of the theme was longing of supplicant nayaki appealing to Lord Ranganatha to shower His grace on her. “ The whole life goes in waiting at your lotus feet with unswerving devotion. Does my plea for yourgrace weigh you down O Lord, please be considerate....” thus sums up her supplication. Choreographed by legendary Rukmini Devi Arundel, this piece was replete with splendid chorographical patterns and diverse nuances of expression. In delineation of the piece in its emotive depth, the duo displayed remarkable grasp of its focus. In depiction of Lord’s unbounded grace in rescuing the faithful, the mythological episodes of Gajendra moksham and Draupadi samrakshanm in Kauravacourt stood well portrayed. The emotional angst of the mind in a state of helplessness and in total submission to Lord in devotion found praiseworthy articulation. A wide range of sancharies were elucidated in detail that accentuated its appeal.

The recital commenced with Todai mangalam an invocatory by Praveena Vajja that set the tempo for the rest. Renowned exponent of Bharatnatyam Adayar Lakshman choreographed it. Her graceful gait underscored her agility and dexterity. Twameva saranam mama and Acharyasthuti were the other highlights in the session.

Sindhumadhuri presented Jathiswaram yet again composition of Guru Adayarlakshman with verve. Guru Avasarala Rukumaji Rao’s nattuvangam, G Aruna’s vocal were an asset, while BVS Sarma on flute, M Edukondalu on mridangam, P Ganapathi on violin and TS Chaitanya on morsing lent commendable support. Earlier, US-based artiste Sanapala Chandrika’s brief vocal concert delighted the audience. US- based Natyoham hosted it.
