Nithyasree Mahadevan presented an enchanting music concert under the auspices of Saraswathy Vidyalayam, a school of fine arts, at the MD Hall, BHEL, Tiruchi, recently. She began with Oothukkadu Venkata Subbaiyar's kriti, ‘Sri Vignarajam Bhaje,' in Gambeera Nattai followed by Tyagaraja's ‘Okabari Jugegarada' in Kalavathi. She impressed the audience with her beautiful alapana in Ranjani for the kriti ‘Sadha Saaranga Nayane.'
Papanasam Sivan's ‘Kumaran Thazh Panindhe Thuthi' in Yadhukula Khambodi was lively. The popular Dikshitar kriti ‘Rangapuravihara' in Brindavana Saranga was delightful. The audience were thrilled to listen to the viruttam from Adithya Hrudhayam followed by the rendition of ‘Karya Kaarana Swaroopane' composed by Nithyasree's mother Lalitha Sivakumar in raga Surya set to Misra chapu tala.
The popular ‘Bantu Reeti' in Hamsanadam was fast-paced with short and sweet alapana, beautiful niraval and swarakalpana at ‘Thuntavinti Vaani.'
Elaborate alapana
The highlight was ‘Doraguna Ituvanti' in Bilahari where the elaborate alapana delved deep into the intricacies of the raga accompanied with wonderful kalpanaswaras. Violinist M.A. Krishnaswamy reciprocated with equal finesse.
The thani avartanam by I. Sivakumar (mridangam), Tiruchi S. Krishnaswamy (ghatam) and Malaikottai R.M. Deenadayalu (morsing) was elaborate.
Suddhananda Bharathy's ‘Eppadi Paadinaro' in Karnataka Devagandhari, Dasarnama ‘Bagyadha Lakshmi' in Misra Bowli, Kolkata Sankaran's ‘Mayil Meedu Virainthodi Vaa' in Charukesi, Bharatiyar's ‘Bharatha Samuthayam' in Behag and Rajaji's ‘Kuraionrum Illai' were sung beautifully.
The concert had a wonderful finish with Madurai Mani Iyer's western notes in Sankarabharanam which made the audience spell bound.
