Praise and worship albums and live concerts have been quite the rage for sometime now. The recent concerts by Don Moen, Gershon Edinboro, Isaac Joe and Alwin Thomas in the city bear witness to this and the phenomenon has impacted both the young and the old and worship and praise CDs fly off the shelves of music stores.
Kiran Ezekiel is a young artist and his recent worship Tamil album, ‘Siranthavar’, sings paeans to the Lord Jesus, a la King Solomon. The opening track, ‘Vallamai Thaarumae’, pleads in Bhangra beat, for power and grace from God to raise modern day Elijahs, Elishas and Esthers. My personal favourite is ‘Azhahaanavar Yesu’ with its haunting tune focussing attention on the One Altogether Lovely. The backing vocals in ‘Aaviyaanavare’ set the mood effectively evoking adoration of the Holy Spirit.
There's variety here. For instance, ‘Manam Erangum’ displays a definite folksy feel. A few of the songs taper off with earnest prayers to the Heavenly Father, thus recreating the worship scene in a sanctuary. The voice processing in ‘En Daevanae’ is reminiscent of the recent Tamil film song that went viral and flummoxed all musicians!
Rufus Ravi has arranged and programmed the songs. He has creatively planned and carefully executed the score for all the eight numbers. Kudos to Amalraj for good use of live instruments. It felt good to sing along with Kiran using the lyric provided in both Tamil and English.
The album is a Life Media release. For details contact ezekielonfire@yahoo.co.in, or call 99160 42982, 88921 70430.
