Saindhavi Prakash came into her own in the end pieces such as ‘Jagadoddarana’, ‘Kaakkai Chiraginile’ and ‘Bhajore Bhaiyan.’ Otherwise, the best item in her concert was ‘Thaaye Thripurasundari’ in Suddhasaveri.

She began with ‘Evaribodana,’ the Abhogi raga varnam, followed by ‘Gajananayutham’ in Chakravakam. Saindavi needs to have a better grip on the raga during alapana. While singing Poorvikalyani, preceding ‘Anandanatamaduvar’ she strayed into Pantuvarali. So also, a couple of starting phrases of main Sankarabharanam made one feel that she was going to sing Kalyani.

Venkatasubramaniam on the violin seemed better with his effort in Kalyani to begin with, but later he seemed to prefer to go the same way as the main artist.

The kriti taken up was ‘Mahalakshmi’ with niraval at the Charanam line ‘Paarkadal…’; here the swara passage was longer than her earlier efforts in Poorvikalyani and Chakravakam, though none of them appeared extempore. As long as there are audiences to applaud after every raga alapana and swarakalpana, this is the kind of fare one is likely to come across. The percussion accompaniment was by Venkatasubramaniam (mridangam) and Sivaramakrishnan on ghatam. Earlier Saindhavi also sang ‘Kotinadulu’ in Thodi.
