An enjoyable musical ensemble, ‘Heartbeat,’ led by ghatam maestro Dr. S. Karthick, featured by the Coimbatore Music Academy, took place recently at the Kikani Higher Secondary School.
He was accompanied by Gopinath (violin), U.P. Raju (mandolin), Prapancham Raveendran (mridangam), Raman (morsing) and N. Sundar (tabla).
The recital began with a Mallari in Gambhiranattai followed by Annamacharya’s ‘Sriman Narayana’ (Bowli).
The music Trinity’s contribution in invoking the rakti and bhakti rasa in their compositions ‘Karunajutavamma,’ ‘Sree Varalakshmi’ and ‘Entharo Mahanubhavulu’ were a good mix of melody and rhythm. The artists forged a style while rendering the number, ‘Ecstasy,’ set to Sallapam ragam.
‘Swarnareka,’ an invocation to Goddess Mookambika in Ragavardhini imparted a delectable flavour.
The nuanced interpretation of the concluding numbers such as ‘Marudhamalai Maamaniye’ and ‘Bho Sambho’ followed by tukkadas, with subtle rhythms were enjoyable.
Master Hari Adarsh, trained by his father Vidwan Neelakantan, regaled the audience by rendering select compositions of Anamacharya and Tyagaraja.
He was accompanied by Sriranjani Ramkumar (violin) and Ramachandran (mridangam).
