Paying homage to Padma Bhushan awardee Sripada Pinakapani who passed away recently in Kurnool after completing 100 years of fruitful service to music as well medicine, several speakers including K.S. Govindarajan, principal of G.V.R.Government College of Music, Vijayawada and C.V.K.Prasad, patron and connoisseur of music recalled Dr. Pinakapani’s awesome contribution to music.

Pinakapani had imparted advanced training to veteran vidwans like Nedunuri Krishnamurthy, Nookala Chinna Satyanarayana, Srirangam Gopalaratnam, Vasundhara Devi and popular duo Malladi brothers Sriramprasad and Ravikumar. He had also authored great books on music namely ‘Sangeeta Sowrabham’ (four volumes), ‘Manodharma Sangeetam’ and ‘Pallavulu’.

The meeting at the Government Music College was attended by a large number of musicians and admirers who observed a one-minute silence in his memory.

The meeting was followed by a memorial vocal concert by vidwan K.V.Bramhanandam, retired lecturer in the music college.

The concert started with a rare varnam in Malayamarutham, followed by Balasubramanya in Revathi composed by Bramhanandam’s guru late M.S.Balasubramanya Sarma, Niradaranamela in Saraswathi and Karuninchuta in Sindhu Mandari. Bramhanandam’s musical depth came out best in the main item of the concert Rama Ninuvina in Sankarabharanam adorned with fine raga delineation and swaras. B.V.Durga Bhavani on violin the Ammula Prasad on mridangam gave able support to the vocalist.
