The eighth Tamil Isai Vizha, sponsored by Sadhana Sadan, took place at the Siddhi Vinayakar temple, Chintamani Nagar, Saibaba Colony, Coimbatore. Sivakumar, managing trustee of the temple, who inaugurated the festival, stressed the need to encourage young talents in the field of Carnatic and Tamil Isai to offset the impact of the reality shows organised by the media. Sree Alalasundara Sivacharya complimented the organisers in popularising the classic works such as Thevaram, Thiruppugazh and Paasurams by the local vidwans through Tamizh Isai.
During the four-day festival, about 150 budding artists, trained by senior vidwans, rendered devotional songs in Tamil composed by renowned vaggeyakaras.
Well-known artists – Niranjan Krishna, Girija Hariharan, Lakshmi Ramaswami, Lalitha Nagarajan, Mohana Krishnan and S.V. Subramanian (electronic organ) rendered soul-stirring devotional lyrics from the classical lore.
On the concluding day, students of Nada Yagnya School of Music stole the show with their presentation of songs that was well-aligned to sruti. Sankari Sethu Krishnan’s solo violin recital accompanied by Sundaram (mridangam) and Aneesh’s vocal concert, which took place later, were well received.
Sangeetha vidwans such as K. Sivaramakrishnan (retd. Prof. of Music), K.S Ragunath (mridangam) and Aneesh must be lauded for organising the festival and encouraging young talents. Those interested in Tamil music may contact 98431 44101,94899 12681 or 90033 93241.
