As part of the weekend cultural programmes, The Andhra Pradesh Bhasha Samskritika Sangham and G.V.R. Government College of Music and Dance, Vijayawada jointly organised a fine thematic cultural programme in the music college premises. The programme was conducted by K.S. Govindarajan, principal of the music college. The event began with a melodious Hindustani vocal concert by Vani Rao of Madhya Pradesh, a noted singer in the state.

Vani Rao came to Vijayawada for the first time and with her soothing and sweet voice she conquered the hearts of Hindustani music lovers. She started her recital with a bada and chota khyal (trital) in rag Kalyani rendering the melody filled nuances with clarity. Towards the end of the concert Vani Rao rendered a sparkling tarana and a couple of bhajans. Vani rao was accompanied well by K. Damodar Rao on the harmonium and K. Manmadha Rao on the tabla.

The vocal concert was followed by a fine thematic Kuchipudi dance feature titled ‘Vanam – Nava Jeevanam’ stressing the importance of developing the greenery and planting trees wherever it is possible.

The message was convincingly carried through the attractive and effective dance feature written by Ch. Butchiahcharyulu and choreographed by B. Suresh Babu. Niranjan’s musical score was apt and attractive. Well trained dancers Pavani, Sudha, Yasaswini, Ragasri, Saipriya, Sasichandana, Bhuvana, Yamini, Rohiti, Sindhu, Ravali, Bharadwaj, Suresh, Siva, Pawan and several others performed with fine co-ordination and neat foot work.

The dance feature was produced by Subhagayatri Arts Academy of Guntur.
