Two swanky cars enter the camera-frame from a distance. Soon, an ambulance goes past the cars. It is action time inside an industrial park near Kakkanad in Kochi, where the shooting of writer-director Siddique’s Bhaskar the Rascal is going on .

Mammootty, who essays Bhaskar, comes out of the ambulance and gets into his caravan parked nearby, as the unit prepares for the next shot. “Bhaskar had seen his dad, Banker Sankaranarayanan (Janardhanan), a wealthy businessman, lose everything in life one after the other. Bhaskar was a student of class 10 then and was shocked to see how everyone treated his father. He quits his studies, becomes a businessman and earns a fortune. But he becomes ruthless and hence people nickname him ‘Rascal’. In reality, his harsh nature is a façade and he is kind,” narrates Siddique.

Bhaskar is a widower and has a son, Aadi, played by Master Sanoop of Philips and the Monkey Pen fame. “He barely spends time with his son. He, however, decides to bond with his son during a school break. The two go to Thiruvananthapuram but on the way Bhaskar is forced to take on some goons. The incident causes a delay in their journey and the ambulance is Bhaskar’s way to reach the destination on time,” adds Siddique.

Nayantara returns to Malayalam as Hima. She sells homemade sweets to earn a living. At a decisive phase in the narrative, she becomes a positive influence on Bhaskar.

Harisree Asokan and Kalabhavan Shajon play Bhaskar’s cronies. While Harisree Asokan plays his driver, Shajon is his bodyguard.

Bhaskar the Rascal is being produced under the banner of Anto Joseph Film Company and will reach cinemas during Vishu. Vijay Ulakanath wields the camera, while Deepak Dev composes the music. Still photographer is Lebison.
