Kudamaloor Janardanan's recital at Mala, Thrissur

It was a melodious treat when flautist Kudamaloor Janardanan performed at the Annamanada Mahadeva Temple near Mala.

Kudamaloor began his concert with a brisk varnam in Bhagyasree. He followed with the popular Swati Tirunal kriti ‘Prama purusha’ in Vasantha raga (Adi tala). With a grand exposition of the raga, he provided an individuality to the rendition and showcased his excellent breath control.

His own composition ‘Nadanamurali’ in Nagaswaravali was next. It was an aural elaboration of various dance forms such as Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathak and the like. He built different systematic patterns in various nadais. Vadakara P.V. Anilkumar on the mridangam and Harikrishnamoorthy on the tabla enriched the concert.

The highlight of the recital was Reghuvamsa sudhambudhi composed by Patnam Subrahmania Iyer in Kadanakuthoohalam. Next to follow was a brief alapana of the raga Dhanasi. With an impressive style he brought out the ragabhava perfectly. Before concluding the concert, Kudamaloor gave a unique presentation of ragamalika starting with the raga Mohana followed by a grand tani avarthanam.

The programme was organised as part of the temple festival.
