The Natyanjali festival, organised under the auspices of the Tamil Nadu Iyal Isai Nadaga Mandram at Sri Akilandeswari - Sri Jambukeswarar temple, Tiruvanaikaval, Tiruchi, came in handy for a group of young dancers to exhibit their talents through their performance.
Titled ‘Sivanjali,’ the dancers, all disciples of Revathy Muthusamy, director of Srirangam Bharatanatyalaya, were divided into different groups and each group presented their performance on various topics that ranged from dance drama to legendary episodes.
The dance drama on 'Arupadai Veedu' mesmerised the audience to a great extent. Every detail of the six temples, which signify Lord Subramanya's great philosophy, was explained in the drama.
Impressive depiction
The artists' performance for ‘Sri Ganesa Saranam,’ in ragam Thillang, a composition by Papanasam Sivan, impressed the viewers. The composition ‘Durge Durge’ in Revathy ragam was a mix of folk dance, Bharatanayam and tillana. The depiction of Goddess Durga, decked with all her weapons, by the dancers in the end was impressive.
Little Durga's performance as Lord Vinayaka and another girl Srinidhi’s as Lord Muruga were laudable. The ‘kavadi’ performance was also enjoyable. A group of artists presented ‘Lord Siva Shabdam’ in ragamalika set to Misra Chapu talam. The foot movements were consistent and well aligned with the sound.
The other highlights were ‘Ulagam Pughazum’ with perfect jati in ragamalika, snake and peacock dance.
Revathy Muthusamy provided the nattuvangam accompanied by Rasikaprasad (vocal support),
Senthilkumar (mridangam), Jagan (keyboard) and Muthamizhselvan (tabla).
