Click before you eat. And you might just win yourself a five-star dinner.
Welcome to the fourth edition of The Hindu Shutterbug photography contest. With a slick new interface, the contest — at >www.thehindushutterbug.com — allows readers to upload, comment, share and vote for pictures. Upload your first meal of the day, and browse through what the city is eating. It might give you some great ideas.
This time the contest theme is ‘Breakfast in Chennai’. Dosas and tomato chutney. Sprouts and chocolate whey protein. Bacon and eggs. Is your breakfast traditional or avant-garde ? Luxuriously decadent or self-consciously Spartan? A quick bite on the run or a relaxed hour at your mother’s dining table? We want to know. And so do all your friends.
Just to sweeten the deal, the winner gets a dinner for two at the Hilton, Chennai. We will choose six finalists, who will be awarded dinner from GRT Grand and Savera. And the winner of the readers’ poll gets a Landmark voucher worth Rs. 1,000. The contest will be judged by Photo Editor D. Krishnan and food columnist Shonali Muthalaly, who will also interact with participants via their posts.
A word of warning. Food is a fussy subject. A plate of upma can give a supermodel a run for her money. So pay attention to composition and lighting. The theme is broad: think eclectic, think out-of-the-box, think quirky.
To participate, register and upload your pictures on the website.
Do fill in all the fields provided — where the image was taken, when and why. Remember, you will be judged on the pictures as well as the captions. We don’t want to just see your plate of idlis , we also want details. It makes your food so much more interesting! (And tells us how and where to get it ourselves. Even if it involves schmoozing a breakfast invite off your grandmother.)
The contest closes on September 30.
