The MBA Healthcare Management Students forum of School of Management, Manipal University, organised a one-day workshop on “Healthcare Delivery at Grass-root Level” in Manipal on November 29.
Delivering the keynote address, M. Dayananda, Medical Superintendent of Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, highlighted the major problems faced in healthcare delivery among the rural population in the country. He said that there should be proper distribution of healthcare resources in rural and urban areas. He emphasised on the need for regionalisation of healthcare facilities. It was necessary to see to that primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare services were utilised appropriately based on the needs of population, he said.
Amritayan Das, Associate District Coordinator, BBC Media Action, Delhi, the resource person, spoke of the challenges in delivering healthcare services especially in the rural areas.
K.V.M. Varambally, Director, School of Management, said that the three mantras of healthcare delivery were affordability, accessibility and acceptability. There was a need for integration of the different medicine systems in the country for ensuring the delivery of preventive and curative healthcare services to the population, he said.
