Why recruiters consider BIM unique

One of the top-ranking B-schools, Bharathidasan Institute of Management has in place a system that ensures students become well-rounded managers.

Placements at the Bharathidasan Institute of Management (BIM), Tiruchi, last year defied economic downturn. This season, BIM is revisiting the success story with a greater momentum, thanks to the student-driven system that nurtures their calibre to manage things efficiently.

Students' confidence stem from their strong grounding in theoretical inputs, BIM's long association with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, and consistency in its ranking among top-most business schools and placements have preserved its reputation. The many clubs and committees have their tasks cut out. BISMARC, the marketing club of BIM is coming up with a 10-day marketing festival, ‘MARCETHLON', which features lectures of eminent personalities in the marketing sector and competitive events to hone the marketing skills of the students. The event is scheduled from March 1 to 10.

A promotion plan contest ‘PROMOTTO' was conducted at BIM on the future niche markets of the tourism industry of India. It attracted wide participation and industrial attention because of the novel ideas that were presented during the event.

A full throttle B-Plan contest ‘MARWAR' was conducted in BIM with industrial as well as student participation. Students presented their innovative ideas to the industry. It brought to surface the entrepreneurial instincts of future business leaders. Other regular events like ADZAP, Ad-Diction, and Bisbuzz are also very much a part of the academic session.

The Finance wing, FINCLUB, has a plethora of events lined up — KSHAN, SHAREGURU and FINUTSAV. Shareguru which was conducted on a national level witnessed participation from students and corporates alike with the students triumphing and showing their readiness to rule the stock market. FINUTSAV the flagship finance event which takes place in the latter half of the year, is a comprehensive test of the students' abilities to apply skills in conjunction with seniors and take decisions under pressure of time and peer competition. KSHAN totally focuses on equity research as it involves the students over a week to come up with detailed reports and predictions. These competitions expose them to real world issues and competition. “We learn to perform under pressure and take decisions under changing circumstances,” said Sridhar, a final-year student in the Public Relations team.

YUDH VIDYA is a management simulation game, a team event. Each team is identical to a company and will have identical position with respect to its assets and liabilities, financial structure and production capacity. Making decisions will be the principal activity in this simulation game. The game is aimed at testing the participant's ability to understand situations and make decisions.

Kalaicom, or KC as it is affectionately known, conducts various events spread throughout the academic year aimed at ensuring that students of BIM are adept not just at balancing profit and loss statements but also at balancing work and fun. ‘SANGAM', the annual alumni meet, is the flagship event of Kalaicom. This event, usually held in the initial months of the year, is an evening of cultural extravaganza.

‘FOXTROT', a full scale dance contest, is an awaited event. Alongside serving as an outlet for creativity, Kalaicom fosters organisational skills among students.

Athenaeum, presented every year by the BIM's Centre for Contemporary Management Research (CECMAR), is an endeavour to create a confluence of thinkers, practitioners, researchers, faculty and students of management to discuss and deliberate on topics pertaining to contemporary management research. This year's theme is ‘Management Next: Insights, Ideas and Innovations'. The Social Consciousness Club of BIM called RADIANCE provides a channel through which students of BIM can show their sense of responsibility towards the society. They run a school, ‘SPIRITED', as part of its activities.
