The Easwari Engineering College inaugurated students’ society of Electronics and Communication Engineers (SSCECE), Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), Women in Engineering, and the Institute of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) on August 1.

Chief guest, R. Premachandran, Centre Head, L&T Infotech Chennai Limited, gave an overview on skills expected from engineers and the importance of societies such as IEEE, and IETE. The guest of honour, C. Ashok, HR, L&T,, spoke about the need of uniqueness and diversification of thoughts.

The Head of Department, S. Saraswathi Janaki, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the achievements of the students of the ECE department, the major being the success of the technical symposium, Quintessence 2k12, held in the academic year 2011-2012. This was followed by a presentation of the annual report by Shankar Karthik, president, SSECE.

The annual report of the IEEE society was provided by K. Madhuri, president, IEEE. The gist of the various activities held in the previous year by IEEE, such as the VCaN Conference, school visits, seminars and workshops, was given. This was followed by the annual report of the IETE society by D. Subash, who gave a brief account of the activities and achievements of the members of the society. D. Jessintha, the IETE Coordinator, introduced the office-bearers. In his presidential address, Vice Principal K. Kathiravan threw light on the dire situations in the industrial sector and how important it is for the ECE engineers to develop the necessary skills to meet the sector’s demands. Director Narayanaswamy made a congratulatory speech to the office-bearers.
