Racing against time before the Assembly polls, the Haryana Government has decided to allot land to nine institutions for development of the Rajiv Gandhi Education City at Sonepat.
The city, to come upon on over 2000 acres close to Delhi, is being developed as a hub for higher learning and a centre for research in cutting edge technologies, an official release said here on Wednesday.
The decision comes close on the heels of the dissolution of the State Assembly, paving the way for polls in October.
The City will cater to the requirements of students from within the state and other parts of the country and overseas in the fields of nanotechnology, genetics, biotechnology, engineering, technology and medicines, the release said.
The nine institutions which have been allotted plots in the REGC campus include Thapar University and Manav Rachna International University, both deemed universities, Birla Institute of Management Technology and Karnataka Lingayat Education Society, Belgaum.
The campus will start functioning within two years from the date of offer of possession.
The seat reservation policy and fee structure would be decided by the State government in order to facilitate quality education and to provide social justice, it said.
