The Centre has sanctioned over 10,000 new primary and upper primary schools in Uttar Pradesh under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) in pursuant of the notification of the State Right to Free and Compulsory Education Rules issued by the government in July.
The sanction for 10,366 new primary schools and 1,052 upper primary schools came on from the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Human Resource Development on Thursday.
These schools have been sanctioned in accordance with the neighbourhood norms prescribed in the State and are intended to provide access to elementary school children residing in hitherto unserved habitations.
The new primary schools will be provided two teachers each, and the upper primary schools three subject teachers for Language, Math and Science and Social Science. A total of 23,888 teachers have also been sanctioned for these schools. The Central government has also sanctioned 121 composite schools for urban deprived children.
In addition, sanctions have been accorded for providing two sets of school uniforms to 1.75 crore children belonging to disadvantaged groups and weaker sections, studying at the primary and upper primary stage of education.
These steps are expected to significantly improve the pace of universalising elementary education in Uttar Pradesh.
