BIM's lavish offering on management skills, CRESCITA, the annual flagship management event of the Bharathidasan Institute of Management (BIM), Tiruchi, featuring a host of competitions over three days is all set to unfold on November 19 at The Accord Metropolitan in Chennai.

Referring to an Italian word signifying ‘growing phases of the moon', CRESCITA was born as a students' initiative in 2005 and has since then, trodden the path of growth and knowledge to don the mantle of a flagship event.

It has served as a forum for bringing together eminent business leaders and budding managers of tomorrow. In the past, CRESCITA has seen personalities of the likes of Bob Moekstra (CEO, Philips India), Kiran Mazumdar Shaw (MD, Biocon) and Dayanidhi Maran ( Union Minister for Textiles) addressing speaker sessions. Different themes, ranging from Corporate Social Responsibility to The rise of Indian economy have been in focus each year. ‘Crescita 2009' was called ‘Parivritti' and explored ‘Ideas that can take India to the Pinnacle: Retrospecting to Prospect'.

The theme of CRESCITA 2010 is ‘Anvekshan', a Sanskrit word meaning research. The emphasis will be on exploring ways and means to capitalise on the opportunities of the present that will open up new windows to the future.

As the global financial system was toiling its way through a rough sea of economic downturn, India stood firm thanks to a robust economy built on strong fundamentals. Growth is back on track and is expected to continue into the future because of a policy environment that is conducive to investment. The ultimate goal is to create a future that will be all inclusive and free from economic disparity.

This year, the event will kick off with an inaugural address by Bobby Srinivasan, president, Institute of Financial Management & Research (IFMR), while the valedictory address will be delivered by C.B. Bhave, chairman, Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) on November 21.

Other speakers during the three-day event include Dinesh Jain, former CEO of Zee Turner Entertainment; R. Sridhar, senior vice-president, Reliance Industries Limited; and M.P. Vasimalai, executive director, Dhan Foundation. In addition to this, there is an HR panel discussion and a discussion on entrepreneurship.

The competitive events have drawn enthusiastic participation from students from various parts of the country. The preliminary rounds of some events like Marwar (marketing simulation game), Addiction (advertising game), Midway Deal (Mergers & Acquisitions game) and Parakrama (management simulation event) are already being conducted online and the final rounds of these will take place during the fest.

Also lined up is a corporate quiz which will be hosted by Barry O'Brien on the 21st.

In addition to this, a series of online quizzes, BIM Quest, was held over four days from November 9 to 12 on four themes: Brands, Finance, Sports & Entertainment and Indian Business.

CRESCITA is the first B-school event in the country to be awarded ISO 9001:2008 certification for its organisation process.

The 2010 edition promises to be bigger and better than the 2009 one, with something in it for everyone.
