Jaigopal Garodia Charitable Book Bank organised college books distribution programme on July 12. Additional Director General of Police, C. Sylendra Babu, who distributed free college books to students of several colleges in Computer Science, Engineering, Arts, Science and Commerce said, “Students should have zeal and enthusiasm in their life, work hard, achieve their goal. He quoted several inspiring examples who by their hard work raised and contributed to the society. Distributing free books to nearly 250 college students, he also said that it is important for students to gain knowledge and skill, have a positive attitude to achieve success in life and become employable in this competitive world. Teachers and parents play a pivotal role in moulding children as good citizens.
He underscored the significance of hard work, honesty, integrity and involvement for the students to succeed in their endeavours. He urged the students to work for the nation. Recalling the services of Jaigopal Garodia, who established various educational institutions in Chennai and elsewhere and implemented many schemes for the students and society, he said that the philanthropic activities of Garodia were laudable and should continue.
Managing Trustee of Jaigopal Garodia Vivekananda Vidyalaya Trust, Ashok Kedia, welcomed the gathering and said that the book bank was established in 2000 and nearly 57,000 students from various colleges have so far been benefited. The Trust had spent Rs. 80 lakhs towards the purchase of books. The Book Bank’s Chief Co-ordinator K.S. Kesavan said that the Jaigopal Garodia Charitable Book Bank is a brain child of Jaigopal Garodia. He said that the book bank grew by leaps and bounds and has seen a tremendous growth in the past 13 years. As many as 10,000 students would benefit from the scheme this year. The only condition for issue of books is that students must return the textbooks after their examination. “There is 100 per cent honesty among the students,” the book bank’s Chief Coordinator Mr. Kesavan said. Since its inception the book bank has not faced any problem. The only hassle is the delay in return of books and added that the problems too would soon be sorted out. Many beneficiaries of the book bank were now well placed in leading companies. In the past a few of the beneficiaries have got Anna University Gold Medals also.
