Vidya Sagar (Formerly Spastics Society of India) proposes to offer a three-month training programme on special needs counselling-titled, “Counselor Education-Disability and Mental Health” from February 22 to April 19.
The programme is aimed at preparing counsellors, psychologists and social workers for a vital role in the vocational, educational and personal adjustment of persons with physical, mental and emotional disabilities. Currently, many therapists do not feel comfortable working with people with disability. This is mainly because there is a lack of educational foundation and clinical experience which leaves the counsellor with a feeling of unpreparedness to implement specialised services.
Therefore, this programme has been conceived and designed, to be offered to professionals and students in the counselling field like psychiatrists, psychologists, counsellors, and social workers.
Course outlines for this training programme have been drawn and developed by experts in the fields of both disability and counselling.
The sessions will be conducted two days a week, on Monday (4 p.m.-7 p.m.) and Saturdays (9 p.m. -4 p.m.)
The application to register for the course will be available at Vidya Sagar, Kotturpuram, on any week day, from 9.30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The last date for application submission is February 17. The course fee is Rs. 7,000.
