Test Track: NIFT entrance test

The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) has invited applications for entrance examinations to be held on February 10 across the country for admission to its various Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes, such as B.Des. and M.Des.

From this year, candidates have the option of taking a computer-based test for admission to B.F.Tech., M.F.Tech. and MFM courses to be held on April 6 and 7.

Apply online till January 14 on >http://applyademission.net/nift2013 or offline from November 12 to January 10. The last date for the receipt of the completed applications is January 14.

Courses

Bachelor of Design (B.Des) in Fashion Design, Leather Design, Accessory Design, Textile Design, Knitwear Design or Fashion Communication: Entry qualification is a pass in Plus Two or an engineering diploma.

Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.F.Tech.) in Apparel Production: Those who have passed Plus Two or equivalent examinations with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and those appearing for the final year qualifying examination are eligible to apply. A pass grade in the senior secondary school examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with minimum five subjects, including Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, and an engineering diploma will be considered.

The upper age limit for the degree programmes is 23 as on October 1; the applicant should be born on or after October 1, 1989.

Masters of Design (M.Des): Entry qualification is a degree from any recognised institute or university or a diploma in undergraduate design from NIFT or the National Institute of Design.

Master of Fashion Management (MFM): Entry qualification is same as required for M.Des.

Master of Fashion Technology (M.F.Tech.): Entry qualification is B.F.Tech. from NIFT or a B.Tech. degree in any branch.

Those appearing in the final year qualifying examination are eligible to apply, provided they produce proof of qualification at the time of counselling or admission on or before September 30.

How to apply

Apply online on www.nift.ac.in or >http://applyadmission.net/nift2013 and pay the application fee online or through bank challan at select branches of the Union Bank of India. The application fee for general and Other Backward Classes candidates outside the creamy layer is Rs. 1,100 (Rs. 550 for those belonging to the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes and those physically challenged).

To apply offline, the application form and prospectus can be had from any of the 15 NIFT centres, including Kannur, in person on payment of Rs. 300 or by post enclosing a demand draft for Rs. 300 in favour of NIFT, New Delhi.

Candidates are also required to submit a demand draft for Rs. 1,100 (Rs. 550) drawn in favour of NIFT payable in New Delhi, along with the completed applications. The filled applications, along with documents, should be sent to the Project Manager, CMS, All India Management Association, Management House, 14, Institutional Area, Lodhi Road, New Delhi – 110 003 so as to reach there on or before January 14. Application status may be checked onhttp://www.specialtest.in/nift2013/Receiptstatus.asp. Admit card can be downloaded from January 30.

Test

The entrance test is designed to test the knowledge skill and aptitude of the candidates. There will be negative marking. Those who seek admission for the B.Des. and M.Des. courses should take creative ability and general ability tests. For B.F.Tech., M.F.Tech. and MFM courses, the general ability test is a must. The general ability test comprises various sections such as quantitative ability, communication ability, English comprehension, analytical ability, general knowledge and current affairs.

The creative ability test is administered to judge the intuition skill, power of observation, innovation in development of a concept and design ability of the candidate. An important aspect of the test is the creative and innovative use of colour and illustration skills.

Candidates shortlisted after the entrance test are required to undergo a situation test/group discussion and an interview (except for the B.F.Tech. course).
