Sindhi College of Commerce celebrated its annual day ‘Spandan 2014’. President of Sindhi College Deepak R. Narang addressed the gathering and highlighted the service of Sindhi Seva Samiti. He said the Samiti awards scholarships to meritorious students and is involved in various philanthropic activities.
The chief guest, K.V. Ravindranath Tagore, retired Additional Director and Inspector General of Police, opened his speech by saying, “A person should not represent a person, but a person’s personality should represent a person.”
He said education and not degrees, plus a person’s quality, knowledge and humanity makes a man. He stressed on the importance of being a person who can empathise. Highlighting the necessity to be a good human being, he advised students not to be judgmental, but accept people as they are.

An agreement between International Institute of Information Technology-Bangalore (IIIT-B) and Samsung R&D Institute India, Bangalore, was signed to promote academic and research interactions for industry-centric knowledge and skill development. The agreement was signed by S. Sadagopan, Director of IIIT-B, and Jason Dongwon Kwak, Managing Director, SRI-B.
IIIT-B will run educational programmes to meet the human resources development needs of Samsung, leading to specific degrees of the institute through its Work Integrated Learning Programmes.
A release said the educational programmes conducted under this collaborative arrangement will offer the employees of Samsung an opportunity to enhance their academic qualification and synergise theory and practice on a sustained basis so as to be multi-skilled with exposure to upcoming technological areas, thus enabling them to appreciate key concepts and participate better in organisational initiatives, improve their perspective, and provide meaningful insights.
Samsung would make available the necessary infrastructural facilities (such as classrooms with equipment, library facilities, computer and communication facilities with access to electronic mail and Internet) for the smooth conduct of the programmes.
Those admitted to the IIIT programmes under this collaborative arrangement will be treated as IIIT students and will be governed by the fee structure and academic regulations of IIIT and also by the service rules and regulations specified by Samsung.
JEE for hotel management
The Institute for Hotel Management (IHM) Bangalore, will be conducting its Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for B.Sc. Hospitality and Hotel Administration in association with the Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi, on April 26 from 10 a.m. to 1p.m.
Application forms are available online until April 7. Results of the exam will be announced in the second week of May, and counselling will be held in the first week of June. The academic session is scheduled to begin on July 28. There are 230 seats.
Eligibility criteria include a pass in 10+2 Senior Secondary examination or its equivalent, with English as one of the subjects. Candidates appearing for the 10+2 exam this year can also write the entrance and submit proof of having passed the qualifying exam at the time of counselling or admission or latest by September 30. Applications are open to students born on or after July 1, 1992 for the General and OBC categories, while the upper age limit is 25 years for students from the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe categories.
