XIME meet

Xavier Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship (XIME), in collaboration with the Association of BRICS Business Schools (ABBS) and the Karnataka Association of Autonomous Business Schools (KAABS), organised an international conference on the topic ‘Revisiting MBA in the Asia Pacific context’. Eminent speakers from 11 countries presented their views on the theme. The occasion also marked the fifth anniversary of ABBS, which is headquartered at XIME. A book titled ‘Human resource practices and labour laws – an international perspective’ authored by professionals across the globe and edited by J. Philip, President, XIME, and Sumathi Annamalai was released by Arun Balakrishnan, former Chairman, Hindustan Petroleum.

The chief guest of the conference was Shekhar Chaudhuri, founder director, School of Management and Entrepreneurship, Shiv Nadar University. The keynote address was delivered by M.J. Xavier, executive director, VIT University.

The countries represented were U.S., China, Australia, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Russia, Bangladesh and India.

National seminar

The Department of Mass Communication, Acharya Institute of Graduate Studies, organised a two-day national seminar on ‘Commercialisation of media and public service communication’. N.G. Srinivasa, retired Additional General Director, Doordarshan, was the chief guest.

There were sessions on radio, television, print, cinema, new media, and folk and theatre.

Faculty development The Department of Electronics and Communication of HKBK College conducted a three-day faculty development programme on “Public speaking and leadership skills” by Arham Faraaz, founder of Arham Faraaz Leadership Academy. The main aim of the FDP was improving the personality of the faculty to connect with the students, and leverage their leadership and communication skills. A release said the programme was attended by more than 90 faculty members of various departments of the institution.

College Day

SRN Adarsh College, managed by Adarsh Vidya Sangh, celebrated its 43rd College Day. It is also celebrated as ‘Founder’s Day’ as it is the birthday of the founder and honorary president V. Premraj Jain.

Ankitha Kumari, batch of 2013, B.Com, who has secured the third rank in the Bangalore University was felicitated by the institution on the occasion. The college annual reports were presented and the college news letter and MCA journal were also released.

Concert

A concert by flute maestro Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia was organised at the Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication (SIMC) by SPIC MACAY in partnership with the institute. Pt. Chaurasia was accompanied by Ravindra Yavagal on tabla, Rajesh on flute support and Jagannath Rao on tanpura.

“The flute is the symbol of spiritual call, the call of divine love”, said Pt. Chaurasia. The performance was followed by a short interactive session with the audience.

MoU signed

The Faizal and Shabana Foundation signed an MoU with Manipal University to invest Rs. 5 crore towards a research and development facility for precast concrete technology at Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), India. The agreement will also introduce a precast design and engineering course to the university’s curriculum.

The research and development centre will be set up by the foundation and expertise will be given to the university via a collaboration with Finland’s Lahti University of Applied Sciences, a release said.

Free coaching

Coaching institute BASE has announced free coaching for SSLC/CBSE Class 10 students. The programmes will be held over weekends from February 8, 2014 at BASE centres in Malleswaram, Yelahanka, Indiranagar and Thanisandra.

Students interested in attending these sessions are required to register. There will be limited seats and will be on a first-cum-first-served basis.

CMAT coaching

The Department of Management Studies and Research Centre of BMS College of Engineering is conducting two-month Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) coaching classes starting February 15 on its campus.

The coaching classes for the national-level online test is spread over 60 hours and will aim at covering the four important components of the test: Quantitative Techniques and Data Interpretation, Logical Reasoning, Language Comprehension, and General Awareness. The classes will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. Download the registration form from www.bmsce.in. The last date for registration is February 10.
