Esprit 2013

St. Joseph’s College of Commerce won the overall trophy at Christ University’s Esprit, the annual international management fest conducted by the Christ University Management Association (CUMA). ‘Esprit 2013 – The Fourth Dimension’ was conducted on September 23 and 24.

The fest was inaugurated by R. Lakshminarayanan, founder of Visalakshmi Consulting. Vice-Chancellor of Christ University, Fr. Thomas C. Mathew; Dean of Commerce and Management, Satinder Singh Duggal; Head of Department of Management Studies, Christ University, Jain Mathew; and CUMA coordinator Lakshmi Karthikeyan were present at the inauguration.

U.K. for better education

The United Kingdom is inviting higher education institutions in Karnataka to partner in developing the sector and improving academic standards in the U.K. and Karnataka. The latest initiative to foster greater linkages between U.K. and Indian institutions was initiated in Bangalore on September 23. The proposed partnership is part of the U.K.’s GREAT Roadshow that is under way in Bangalore. The GREAT Roadshow is a series of events aimed at fostering exchange between the U.K. and India to facilitate trade and investment.

Free mock GATE

Triumphant Institute of Management Education (T.I.M.E.) is conducting a free all India mock GATE on October 6. This written exam and invigilated test will replicate the exact test atmosphere of the actual GATE. This test will be conducted at numerous locations and will help students gauge the competition and get inputs for preparation.

Based on the performance in the mock GATE, students can get scholarships on the T.I.M.E. Test Series and Class-room courses. GATE aspirants planning to take the mock test can register online at www.time4education.com. The registration link will be open till 6 p.m. on October 6. Keeping in view the seat availability, hall tickets will be allotted on a first-come-first-served basis for the students registering online.

ACE Challenge winners

Sandeep Bharihoke, Nitin Agarwal and Rahul Kumar, students of the Executive Post-Graduate Programme in Management (EPGP) at Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore, won the first prize in the Seller Services - Account Management Category of the Amazon Customer Excellence (ACE) Challenge. ACE Challenge is an intercollegiate case study competition open to teams from top B-Schools in India. It challenges students to innovate, strategise and sample a diverse set of complex work challenges that are typical to any workplace.

Scholarships

Faculty of Business, Economics and Law, La Trobe University, has announced scholarships worth $ 240,000 for deserving Indian students.

These scholarships are being offered across various Master’s degree courses at the University. For details visit www.latrobe.edu.au/international.

MoU signed

Volvo Group, a provider of commercial transport solutions, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal, (NITK, Surathkal).

The mutually beneficial partnership is a part of the Volvo Group’s Academic Partner Programme (APP), a global initiative that provides students an opportunity to gain industry experience and at the same time enhances the Volvo Group’s ability to develop and recruit top talent, a press statement from the company said.

ICAI placements

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), the statutory body for regulation of chartered accountants in the country, held its second campus placement programme for the current year across 16 cities of the country recently.

The recruiters included ITC, Hindustan Unilever, Alghanim Industries, Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro, Madura Fashion and Life Style, and Marriott Hotels India.

More than 624 students were recruited during the campus placement drive. The highest compensation stood at Rs. 24.64 lakh per annum, which was offered to three students by Alghanim Industries for international posting.

App competition

Aptech Computer Education, in association with Microsoft, has announced ‘Power Your Future’, a national-level app development competition to unearth the creative potential of students across India.

The competition is open to all engineering/degree colleges and schools in the country. Interested institutions can contact on toll free number: 1800-209-1444 or visit www.aptech-education.com/ and register themselves before October 31.

Motorola programme

The Foundation for Advancement for Education and Research (FAER), a non-profit trust, is inviting applications for the Motorola Scholars programme. The programme is focused on computer science and IT, communication, energy systems, resources management, environment and ecology, rural technologies, etc.

The projects proposed by students should be innovative and implementable. The rules / poster / format for proposal can be found on www.faer.ac.in. Last date for receipt of hardcopy of the proposals for projects is October 15.

Students who submit good proposals have a chance to get a small financial grant to execute them.
