A total of 403 seats at government and self-financed medical colleges were allotted on Tuesday, through single-window counselling.
On Wednesday, 187 seats in government medical colleges and 71 seats in the government-run dental college will be allotted to students as part of the second phase of counselling. In self-financed medical colleges, 482 seats will be up for grabs.
While some students heaved a sigh of relief as their long wait ended, for others, it seems that the wait will be longer.
K. Vikram, who had been called for counselling during the first round, was the 1578th person and was listed as ‘waiting’. His father R. Krishnamurthy, employed at the Karur court, said Vikram had been allotted Tiruvannamalai Medical College.
“We were told to return home as the new college is awaiting inauguration by the Chief Minister. We were advised to keep track of the college’s opening date on its website,” he said.
Candidates like M. Sangeetha will have to wait longer. She has a cut off of 190.75 marks but was waitlisted and was among the last 20 aspirants to be called for counselling. Her mother is a daily wage labourer and her role model is her sister, who has studied to become a nurse.
Sangeetha has been called for counselling on August 12.
“I have also applied for B.Sc Nursing but I’m hoping to get a seat in a medical college,” she said
