An overwhelming response and faces marked with satisfaction marked the successful 9th year of the conduct of ‘The Hindu Education Plus Career Counselling 2012’ event at Anantapur for the students aspiring to be future engineers.
The event which was held at the DRDA Abhyudaya Hall, filled to its brim, had renowned speakers give in depth information about various stream in engineering before a lengthy Q & A session, which ran right into the late afternoon.
Speaking at the event, the chief guest and Vice- Chancellor of the Sri Krishnadevaraya University K. Ramakrishna Reddy advised the students not to bother about the losses they might encounter in their life advising them to move on with the next opportunity in the field that presents itself.
“There are 15 crore jobs awaiting you in the next decade around the world and the only requirement will be an engineering degree and skill set that matches the requirements of the industry,” said Professor Hema Chandra Reddy, Director, Academic and Planning at the JNTU - A, adding that a survey expected Indian students to bag most of those jobs.
On the other hand, the Principal of the SKU College of Engineering, Nagabhushan Raju advised the students on the procedures that comprised web counselling.
He explained to them on the various aspects of electrical and electronics stream of engineering even as he exhorted them to take a decision based on their interest and work towards academic excellence in that field.
Design Engineering, a branch of civil engineering, C. Sashidhar, HOD of the Civil Engineering Department of the JNTU-A, said would ensure a position next to none and a commensurate earning too. He added that civil engineers were one of the most in demand in a country where there is a 25 per cent annual jump in the quantum of infrastructure, be it any realm, saying it presented a very good option to the students.
On the other hand, the Principal of the Raghavendra Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research advised students who opted for Pharmacy to look at whether the college had the approval of the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) besides a dedicated management before joining a college. The general summation at the event was that talent and a skill set acquired through practical application of skills were the requisites to get a placement and no amount of colleges offering 100 per cent placement would do good without these.
The event was also attended by Asst Professor at the Computer Science Department of the JNTU, Madhavi who explained the depths of the computer science stream in engineering.
