The government has asked Anna University of Technology- Chennai not to go ahead with the recruitment of faculty scheduled from June 7.
After the government decided to restore the affiliating status of Anna University-Chennai, the fate of the five Anna Universities of Technology formed during the previous Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is yet to be known.On Monday, officials of the Higher Education Department called up the AUTC authorities not to conduct the interview scheduled for the selection for the posts of professor, associate professor and assistant professor from June 7.
According to sources, the department has written to a few of the AUTs, which were in the process of recruiting faculty, to put the process on hold till further orders.
Based on the instructions, AUTC has postponed the recruitment drive citing “administrative reasons” and announced that the revised schedule would be announced later.
In fact, the AUTC, citing the same reason, has postponed the proposed preparatory school scheduled for Plus 2 pass students from June 14 as well.
Officials of the AUTs said they have been asked to restrict themselves to “routine work” and not to take up any “special programmes.”
The government has stopped recruitment as the Higher Education Department has been receiving a large number of complaints.
A written communication was being sent to the authorities of AUTs not to recruit for any post, a senior official said.
