The Federation of Civic Welfare Associations of Pallavaram and Chromepet held a meeting with Pallavaram MLA P. Dhansingh, Sriperumbudur Member of Parliament K.N. Ramachandran, and Pallavapuram municipality chairman K.M.R. Nissar Ahmed on September 6.
The Federation members raised several issues at the interactive session and submitted a petition with regard to civic amenities in Pallavaram and Chromepet. The issues include monthly charges of Underground Drainage System (UGD), UGD project for uncovered areas, long-pending Radha Nagar subway project, the new water scheme (Chembarambakkam Lake), Venkatamangalam compost yard, protection of water bodies, Hasthinapuram crematorium-gasifier project, poor maintenance of Eashwari Nagar Rail-Over-Bridge and construction of a bus shelter at Hasthinapuram bus terminus.
The petition was submitted to Dhansingh by C. Murugaiyan, federation secretary. The MLA said, “As I had earlier served as the chairman of Pallavapuram municipality, I know the problems faced by the residents of Pallavaram and Chromepet.
“The Pallavapuram municipality has passed a resolution (No.882, dated 31.07.2014) to reduce the UGD charges. The resolution has been sent for further action to the Commissioner of Municipal Administration, Chepauk. Regarding the Radha Nagar Subway project, the municipality has passed a resolution to construct a pedestrian subway and an underground vehicular subway at Vaishnav College gate, urging the Highways Department to expedite the subway work at the earliest.”
He pointed out that the Venkatamangalam solid waste management compost yard was nearing completion and 90 per cent work was over. The yard project work would be completed by November this year. Once the project was completed, the dumping of garbage near Ganapathy Puram Lake area would be stopped, he pointed out.
The Pallavaram Periya Eri and Keezhkatalai Eri would be taken up for rejuvenation at a cost of Rs. 22 crore with the help of the Tamil Nadu Urban Infrastructure Financial Services Limited (TNUIFSL) and Chennai Rivers Restoration Trust, funded by Tamil Nadu Urban Development Project, he said.
Other works include installation of more than 500 CFL bulbs on lamp posts on Pallavaram - Thoraipakkam 200-ft Radial Road connecting Kurinchi Nagar, Chromepet, and maintenance of Pallavaram Eashwari Nagar Rail-Over-Bridge by the municipality.
Earlier, the Federation thanked Ramachandran for taking up the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) issue in the Parliament. The MP assured the members that the ASI issue would be resolved soon.
