An ex-Serviceman, Sundara Rao writes about life in the Army. And this 92-year-old shares what he writes with friends and relatives. You must ask how? After the advent of the computer, Sundara has rarely written longhand. He types his real-life stories and mails them to his dear ones. “I spend a good amount of time in front of the computer, ” says this resident of Kalakshetra Colony.
Sundara Rao is involved in various social welfare initiatives. He is a key member of the Rotary Club of Madras Coromandel. He conceived a project called Karna Vidya for the visually-challenged. “Under this project, we try to bring in volunteers to help visually-challenged students by reading out study materials to them. We are also planning to conduct spoken English and personality development sessions,” says Sundara. He also handles sessions on motivation. He is interested in gardening as well. With palpable excitement in his voice, he lists the plants and trees in his backyard, “We have lady’s finger, tomatoes, gooseberry and lemon. We have compost pits and prepare the manure,” he adds.
