Sudden heavy showers on Thursday last took residents of Tambaram and a few nearby pockets by surprise. It also helped in bringing some respite from the scorching summer heat. The whole of Thursday was overcast, with residents hopeful of rain. However, it was not before 6 p.m. that the sky opened resulting in heavy showers that lasted for little over an hour. The rain, however, was restricted only to a few pockets around Tambaram. In areas such as Madipakkam and Nanganallur, residents were witness only to strong winds and a dip in temperature.
The shower took residents by surprise and they were seen scampering for cover from the rain.
As a precautionary measure, engineers of Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation severed power supply. In other areas of West Tambaram, power supply was disrupted due to a burst in transformers, but the supply was restored soon.
