The Engineering Division of Southern Railway, Chennai, has landscaped a new beautiful garden on the premises of Tambaram Railway Station. The garden is developed between platform number seven and eight. The garden is fenced on the four sides with a little passage left open for watering the plants. Developed on an area of 500 square metres, the green patch has flowering and vegetable plants. Space around the garden will be landscaped, Railway officials said. The plants will be taken care of and watered by the staff of the Engineering Division. We want to create awareness among the public about environment and gardening. People should take the effort to develop gardens in their homes to safeguard the environment from global warming, the officials added. Plans are in the pipeline to implement the garden landscaping project in major railway stations across the city. Under the first phase, Tambaram and Mambalam railway stations will be covered. The work to develop a garden in Mambalam station (western side) started a few days ago. While appreciating effort to beautify the stations, R. Ram, a commuter, pointed out that people should develop civic sense and keep their surroundings clean.
