For vegans and the health-conscious, here is something to try out. Farmesans, a venture started by Kumaresan and Gayathri early this year, delivers salads at the customer’s doorstep. “We source fruits and vegetables from our farm in Kodaikanal. We practise organic methods to ensure our crops are free of pesticides,” says Kumaresan.

Earlier, they were supplying fruits and vegetables to retail outlets. “I wanted to try something novel and healthy in the food industry, so I choose salads,” adds Kumaresan.

With the help of a dietician and a salad specialist, the vegetables and fruits are assorted.

The vegetable salads fall into two categories — steamed and raw. The steamed assortment includes broccoli, French beans and carrots accompanied by peanut orange dressing. Baby-corn, baby carrot and capsicum come with lemon mustard dressing.

Under the raw category, beetroots, radishes and European cucumbers are accompanied by apple cider chilli dressing. European cucumbers and cherry tomatoes are given a balsamic dressing. Green papaya and tomatoes with basil and green chillies are accompanied by tamarind and soy dressing. Strawberry and passion fruit are given a passion dressing.

“At present, we are supplying our salads to a few hospitals and fitness centres. We will be coming up with more varieties and we also have plans to launch soups,” says Gayathri, who prepares the dressing. For details, visit www.farmesans.com or call 98846 88025 / 94447 51224.
