The Kodambakkam Residents’ Civic and Welfare Association conducted a meeting with police personnel to educate the residents about personal safety and security issues.
The meeting was chaired by the joint secretary of the Association Vasanthi Kannan, Deputy Commissioner of Police, T. Nagar, P. Pakalavan, and Assistant Commissioner of Police G. Tamilselvan.
Speaking on the occasion, Tamilselvan said the public had a larger role to play in preventing crime in their neighbourhood.
He advised house owners, who give their homes for rent, to submit details of their tenants to the police. Those employing helpers must check their antecedents, collect and verify their addresses, phone numbers and other particulars before their appointment..
The Assistant Commissioner requested the residents to install CCTV cameras in their houses.
“The cameras will provide vital clues to officers in the area. The residents should also inform the police about any suspicious person,” he said.
The residents asked the police to regulate traffic and provide speed-breakers at Station View Road, and a pedestrian signal near Sri Raghavendra Kalyana Mandapam.
They wanted boards providing information about diversions due to repair work on Kodambakkam Bridge, to be installed every 100 metres on Arcot Road.
The police promised to look into this matter.
