Actor-director Sasikumar has his hands full with acting so much so that his directorial venture will take off only next year. With three Tamil films already in his kitty for the current year, it's no surprise. In fact, after the release of “Masters”, a Malayalam film he featured in, he's said to be receiving offers from there too. Also, there's good news on the non-film front. Sasikumar is happy that what started off small has taken off in a big way. “Whenever I was invited to a college or university event, I would hesitate. And then I hit upon the idea of asking them to offer a free seat to a deserving student instead of offering me money for my participation at the event. Now, over half-a-dozen colleges have promised me at least 70 free seats,” says a delighted Sasikumar.
Acting? No!
Director Samudirakani has plans to direct his “Poraali” in Kannada and a couple of other languages, and then return to Tamil to direct ‘Jayam' Ravi. And, he's not thinking about acting for the year. “I have finished acting in ‘Saatai',” said the actor-director who appeared in “Subramaniapuram” and “Easan”. “There are a couple of attractive offers that I may grab. This year I'll be focussing on direction, and not acting.” “Saatai” is directed by M. Anbazhagan, a former associate of director Prabhu Solomon. The film will throw light on teaching as a profession.
Busy with “Baasha”
Music director Deva is busy working on the music of “Baasha” in Hindi. “When the producers of the film approached me, I told them I would work on the re-recording to suit the Hindi audience. I have re-worked the music for a few of the important scenes in ‘Baasha'. But, why is the dubbed version releasing after nearly 15 years? Apparently, Amitabh Bachchan wanted to do it in his banner, but then decided he would not be able to do it as good as Rajinikath did. Hence the dubbed version! Deva has finished four Tamil films and is working on a few Telugu and Kannada films.
