A day after actor Saif Ali Khan was arrested and released on bail for allegedly assaulting a Non-Resident Indian businessman and his father-in-law, the Mumbai Police said on Thursday that they were investigating an application the actor submitted against the businessman.

Counter-complaint filed

Saif, who was released on a surety of Rs. 15,000, told reporters on Wednesday night that he had filed a counter-complaint against Iqbal Sharma (44) for assaulting him.

“We have received an application from Saif. We are investigating the matter,” Vinod Sawant, Senior Police Inspector of Colaba police station, told The Hindu on Thursday.

Saif said he was assaulted by Mr. Sharma and he hit the businessman in self-defence. Mr. Sharma, in his complaint, said Saif's fist blow fractured his nasal bone. The incident occurred at a star hotel on Tuesday night.

Saif and his friends Shakil Ladakh and Bilal Amrohi were booked under Sections 34 and 325 of the Indian Penal Code.
