Sanchita Shetty is back in the spotlight after the release of Villa . She had earlier worked for the same production house Thirukumaran Entertainment, in Soodhu Kaavum , a black comedy that won her critical acclaim. “True, Soodhu Kaavum was the biggest hit in my career and I am glad I have been considered again. Both the films are different, I have never done such films in the past, I was only associated with light hearted roles, village character etc. Here in Villa I play a very supportive girlfriend to a struggling writer,” says Sanchita sounding tired and excited at the same time after a whirlwind promotional press tour in both the cities.
She adds, “It was simple but I knew I had to be careful towards the end. This is like a franchise like Dhoom and Murder . Right from the beginning we have maintained that it isn’t a sequel. The link is retained but the scenes will be related in some form or the other. In Chennai we expected a better response but I guess it has done very well here. I like the way the new directors are weaving such fantastic stories. Except for my first film with Jeyam Ravi, all my directors have been debutants.”
Sanchita says she was aware that everyone would appreciate her work but was a bit wary about how her role towards the end would shape out. She has always waited for a good story and never worked in back to back films like a woman in a hurry. She avers, “I enjoy both kind of cinema though but give lot of preference to performance oriented roles.”
Sanchita is looking forward to working in Telugu films and she says “acting is in my genes”, her grandmother was a theatre artiste. “I love films I can work 24x7, and breathe life into an imaginary role like I did as Shalu in Soodhu Kaavum ,” she signs off.
