Scenic Pulimutt easily attracts the most number of people every evening at Beypore, the famous port town near Kozhikode. The fairly long stone pier and promenade at Pulimutt stretches into the Arabian Sea and few can resist the wind in their hair and the beauty of the setting sun.
In the afternoons, though, Pulimutt is mostly deserted, like it is on this humid Friday when the crew of Pottas Bomb is busy shooting a scene featuring Tiny Tom and Priyanka.
The film marks the debut of director Suresh Achoos.
A short scene is being canned here, where Priyanka and Tiny walk a few steps in deep discussion. It is canned pretty quickly and the action then shifts to nearby Feroke.
At Feroke, a guest house of a tiles factory is the venue for the day. In the film, it is Tiny’s house. The actor plays a circle inspector of police who is investigating a murder. In the scene, he is shown as watching the news on television. He makes some remarks on the visuals to Priyanka, a social activist who is his friend.
“The film is about four boys who run away from a juvenile home and get involved in a murder. In this scene, the cop is talking about some important characters of the plot,” explains Suresh, who has also written the script, before he gives instructions to Tiny and Priyanka.
The scene has Tiny in a white dhoti and T-shirt, sipping a cup of tea, while Priyanka, dressed simply, but attractively in a maroon printed cotton salwar, sits on a chair slightly in front of him. They say their short dialogues and the visibly happy director calls out, “Cut!”
This is only Priyanka’s second film after her marriage to Chennai-based assistant director Lawrence Ram. “The first film I shot after my wedding was Point Blank , directed by Rajesh Amanakkara. I decided to do Pottas Bomb because I liked my character, though she doesn’t have too many scenes,” says the artiste, who had won the State award for the best actress in 2009 for Vilaapangalkappuram .
Tiny, whose Housefull , his first film as hero, just released in theatres, says it’s great to play the hero once again in Pottas Bomb . “I have been getting many offers to play the hero. But most of the time when the directors approached me, I could guess that I was not always their first choice. I was thus not keen on those roles just because I could play the lead. Pottas Bomb has an interesting storyline and I wanted to be part of it,” he explains.
Irshad, Indrans, Kottayam Nazeer, Anu Sithara, Chinju Mohan, Vishnu Unnikrishnan, Rajeev Rajan, Rohith Menon, Achu Arun Kumar, Gokulan and Dinesh Nair are in the cast.
Neil D’Cunha is the cinematographer. Lyrics by Vayalar Sharath Chandra Varma have been tuned by Mohan Sithara. Stills are by Anil Perambra. Pottas Bomb , produced by People Cinema, will hit cinemas during the summer holidays.
