Samsara

Pan Nalin

In this wonderful film made by Nalin in 2001, the essence of Buddhism is the central focus of the film. Capturing the beauty of Ladakh and the life of monks Nalin gives us a wonderful cinematic experience. The protagonist’s life is similar to that of prince Siddhartha especially the scene where he leaves home to find enlightenment.

Amadeus

Milos Forman

After being treated to the incredible story of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart through the eyes of his secret rival Antonio Salieri, it is evident that music is Mozart. The innocence and intelligence of Mozart makes the film a visual treat that should not be missed by anybody who loves cinema and music. Twenty-five years later the movie still remains a classic.

Hunger

Steve McQueen

Even if you have witnessed many hunger strikes, to know the true pain and suffering of a person who undergoes it you must not miss this film. This film portrays the true face of the State and the police when it comes to meet those who raise their voice against the Government. The commitment and involvement of the actors makes the film lively and proves that the thirst for freedom and the quest for attaining self rights have always been a basic necessity for human beings.

Departures

Yojiro Takita

The hero follows a strange profession — assisting departures of the dead, one that is performed after the last rites are done for the human body. It portrays how we value and honour the dead. The film also focuses on the relationships that are important in our lives.

The Motorcycle Dairies

Walter Salles

None other than Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara could have been a role model for those who want to fight oppression. Though he was an Argentinean he proved to be a citizen of this universe. He toured South America along with Alberto Granado and that was the “making” of Che Guevara. The film captures the beauty of South America and takes us through the lives and culture of its people.
